Learning to use iNaturalist to discover the world of biodiversity on our doorstep

Organised by collaboration between a former BSc student from UR and the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management (CoEB), with funding from the National Geographic Society (NGS), a training on the use of iNaturalist took place on 17-18 May 2021 at Huye campus. There was a one day in-class session on understanding iNaturalist and one day for going outside to collect data (mainly pictures) on all species observed (e.g. plants, animals, birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles).

Training on Manuscripts Preparation, Publication and Statistical Analysis

On 13-17 January, 2020, the The Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management (CoEB) hosted training on Manuscript Preparation and Statistical Analysis to help students prepare good quality manuscripts. On 13-14 January 2020, students had training on Manuscripts Preparation and Publication. Prof. Beth Kaplin, the CoEB Director and Dr. Venuste Nsengimana, the Deputy Director of CoEB facilitated the training. Trainers explained to students how they should write well, determine authors and their order and select the relevant journal to publish in.

Partnership with REMA Facilitates Research by UR Masters Students under LAFREC Project

On January 5th 2018, the University of Rwanda signed a Collaborative Agreement with the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) to support postgraduate students conducting research for their masters’ theses.After affixing signatures to this agreement, the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resources Management (CoEB), College of Science and Technology took a lead to coordinate all related activities.  Since then, students and supervisors have been benefiting from this partnership in different ways.

CoEB workshop with biology department

This Thursday 26th January 2017, the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management (CoEB) with the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) hosted a half day workshop for its hub *the College of Science and Technology, University of Rwanda, specifically in the Biology Department* at the CoEB office in Huye to present the mission and goals, current operating status, and solicit inputs and commitments from Biology Department staff for their integration with the CoEB.

UR-CAVM validates degree Programs in Irrigation-Drainage and Agricultural Mechanization

orkshop taking place in Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village from 9th -13th July, 2018 brought together relevant stakeholders in curriculum development including academic staff of UR, current students and alumni, private sector representatives and governmental officials. They are all expected to provide their experiential valuable inputs for accomplishing the objectives of proposed workshop.

UR staff tipped to integrate multimedia content into modules

A one- week training workshop on Multimedia Production which was attended by 26 lecturers selected from all Colleges of the University of Rwanda and 4 e-learning technicians was held from 23 to 27 July 2018. The training was hosted by the University of Rwanda, College of Education, financially supported by the UNESCO-Korea Funds- in-Trust (KFIT) Project on ICT Transforming Education in Africa.
