Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture

With the funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) through Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF), this project is implemented by the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management (CoEB), the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) and Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB). It is implemented in the districts of Kirehe, Kayonza, Gatsibo, and Nyagatare. The aim of the project is to promote smart climate agriculture to build resilience among small holder farmers in the Eastern Rwanda. The project distributed 50 smart phones to selected lead farmers for climate data access and sharing, planted agroforestry trees on 2000 ha, established the small scale solar powered irrigation system in Kayonza, distributed drought tolerant crops, constructed two fruits selling points and two cold rooms in Kirehe and Nyagatare, provided small grants to 37 farmers and 14 cooperatives to implement small scale climate smart agriculture and provided trainings to farmers.
