Right Tree in the Right Place for the Right Purpose (RTRP)

The RTRP project supports evidence-based forest restoration in Rwanda by guiding the selection of native tree species that are ecologically appropriate and beneficial to local communities. TheCoEB provided the ecological expertise and biodiversity dataparticularly through the Rwanda Biodiversity Information System (RBIS) to help address historical gaps in native tree documentation and inform decisions on “what to plant and where.” The CoEB will establish a learning center for native tree species. This collaborative and science-driven approach strengthen climate resilience, enhances biodiversity conservation, supports national restoration commitments such as the Bonn Challenge, and improves long-term landscape restoration outcomes across Rwanda. The project is funded by Botanic Gardens Conservation International.
